Lesson 1 - The real woman behind the voice of Siri

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Everyone knows Siri but do you know there is a real person behind that voice? Today we are going watch a video where you will meet the Siri-woman.

🎧 Please watch the video to get a general idea (no worries if you don't understand every single word)

🎧 Please watch the video once again and as you're watching, you will need to do a short quiz

💡 Here's some good vocabulary that can be useful in everyday conversations:

We’re dying to know: Siri, who is the voice of Siri?

When you're dying to do something, it means that you can't wait to do it. For example: I am dying to go somewhere (dying + to do). You can also say I am dying for a vacation (dying for + noun)

RUS - не терпится узнать; умираю от любопытства

I kinda got chills

When you're impressed or amazed by something, you get chills . For example: When I went to Enrique Iglesias' concert, I got chills.

RUS - мурашки по коже

No, I take that back

When you said something and you realized that it was incorrect, you can say - I take that back

RUS - забираю свои слова обратно

I was speaking all kinds of crazy sentences
Originally, it was just a bunch of sentences and phrases

It's very common in everyday speech to use "all kinds of", or "a bunch of" meaning a lot, so many

I just found it so fascinating and I said: I’m in!

When someone offers you to do something, it's very common to say - "I'm in!" (meaning: "Yes, let's do it! Sure, I want to do that")

RUS - я только за, я согласна (согласен)

Eventually, they did text to speech

Eventually means in the end, finally. For example: They didn't like each other at first, but eventually they became the best friends.

RUS - в конце концов; в конечном счёте; в итоге; со временем; впоследствии

Originally, it was just a bunch of sentences and phrases

And the opposite of eventually is originally (in the beginning, at first). For example: Originally, they didn't like each other, but in the end they became the best friends.

RUS - изначально,первоначально, сначала

Back in that day, we didn’t have any clue

We didn't have any clue means we had no idea, we didn't know at all. For example: Susan: Do you know where my keys are?

Her husband: I have no clue!

RUS - Понятия не имею; не имею ни малейшего представления
